Today, we\u2019re hearing from Stefan Williams, Material Scientist for MEAs and fuel cell stacks in our Spokane, WA office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery aligncenter has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"8434\" src=\"https:\/\/www.plugpower.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/SWilliams_sm.jpg\" alt=\"Stefan Williams\" class=\"wp-image-8434\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks for spending a few minutes with us, Stefan. <strong>Could you please<\/strong> <strong>explain what you do for a living?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I work to improve the performance and durability of our air-cooled PEM (proton exchange membrane) fuel cells and build the company\u2019s material characterization capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What excites you about working<\/strong> <strong>in the hydrogen and fuel cell industry?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fuel cells are inherently a multidisciplinary field. The industry offers challenges that require you to consistently learn new things in a practical and applicable setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you could go back and give your 21-year-old self a valuable piece of advice, what would you say?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wisdom comes from making mistakes; mistakes only happen if you take risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is your proudest accomplishment?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earning my commission as an infantry officer in the US Army, and having my father swear me in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you could choose to do any<\/strong> <strong>job for a day, what would it be?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019d be a UPS driver: they get to see all the dogs and can wear those brown shorts to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What three non-survival items<\/strong> <strong>would you take with you on a deserted island?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapstick, a 5-iron, and a change of socks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks for taking the time with us, Stefan \u2013 we\u2019re so thankful to have your scientific mind working to make our products even better!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is PowerSpot, Plug Power\u2019s blog series where we highlight the Plug employees who inspire us and, we hope, will inspire you, too.
